Terms of Service

Welcome to AskCSV. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the AskCSV website and app at https://askcsv.com (the "Services"), operated by AskCSV ("we," "us," or "our"). By using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

1. The Service

AskCSV helps you analyze CSV, TSV and Excel (.xlsx) data using natural-language questions. A file you open is read and queried in your browser; it is not uploaded to AskCSV, and we do not store a copy of it. For each question, the browser sends AskCSV's server a limited context — your question, the name and row count of each file, the columns you choose to share with up to 10 sample rows, up to 100 rows of the query result with summary figures, and the earlier messages in the chat — so that an AI provider (OpenAI) can write the SQL and explain the answer, as described in our Privacy Policy.

The generated SQL is shown with each chart so results can be verified. AI output may be inaccurate or incomplete, and you should check consequential results before relying on them.

AskCSV analyzes opened files only. It does not connect to your own databases or warehouses. An internet connection is required for a new AI answer. Analytics, Google sign-in, and Stripe payments use third-party services as described in our Privacy Policy.

2. Subscription and credits

Subscription. AskCSV costs USD $5 per month. Each billing period includes USD $5 of usage (about 100 answers at the typical cost of about USD $0.05 per answer). Included usage is available only for that billing period: it resets on the next billing date and does not roll over. The subscription renews automatically each month until canceled. You can cancel at any time in Settings → Manage billing (powered by Stripe). Cancellation stops future renewals, and your access and included usage for the current period continue until the end of that period. You may subscribe again later.

What credits are. Extra usage beyond the included amount is paid with prepaid credits denominated in US dollars. Credits are prepaid for AskCSV analysis and can be used only within the Services. They are not cash, a prepaid card or voucher, a stored-value account, a bank deposit, or a security; they have no cash value, cannot be transferred, sold, or exchanged, and are not redeemable for cash except for refunds described below. Credits can be purchased while your subscription is active.

How credits are used. Each AI answer is charged for the tokens the AI reads and writes — currently USD $13 per 1 million input tokens, USD $1.30 per 1 million cached input tokens, and USD $65 per 1 million output tokens. A typical answer costs about USD $0.05; answers that share more columns, return larger results or follow a longer chat cost more. A request refused before the AI runs costs nothing. Opening files and viewing charts do not use credits. Credits are spent in the order they expire, soonest first, so the current period's included usage is used before purchased credits. Rates may change as described in Section 10; a change applies to answers after it takes effect, not to credits already used.

Free credits. Guests receive USD $0.25 of trial credits once, without an account; they expire 7 days after they are issued. There is no sign-in bonus. Free credits are promotional: they have no cash value, cannot be refunded, and may be changed or withdrawn for future sign-ups.

Purchased credits. Subscribers may buy credits in amounts of USD $10, $25, $50, or any amount from USD $10 to USD $500 in USD $10 steps. You receive credits equal to the pre-tax amount you pay, and they are available as soon as payment completes. Purchased credits expire 12 months after your most recent purchase: each new purchase extends all of your remaining purchased credits to 12 months from that purchase. Purchased credits remain usable after your subscription ends or is canceled, until they expire. Your balance and expiry dates are shown in Settings, and the app notifies you when purchased credits will expire within 30 days.

Features. Guests can analyze files without an account. Signing in lets you subscribe and buy credits; your file stays in your browser either way. How large a file can be handled depends on the browser and device rather than on a fixed plan quota. Limits may change as the Services evolve.

Refunds. You may cancel your subscription at any time; the current period is not renewed. You may request a refund of unused purchased credits within 14 days of the purchase by emailing help@askcsv.com from the address on your account; we refund the unused part of that purchase to the original payment method. Credits already used for answers are not refundable. If a payment is refunded or disputed, we remove the corresponding credits from your balance and may remove the included usage for that period. Where applicable law gives you additional rights — for example, withdrawal rights in the EU or UK, or Korean consumer protection rules on subscriptions and refunds of unused or expired paid credits — the law applies and nothing in these Terms limits those rights.

3. Accounts and Payments

Guest use does not require registration. Google sign-in is required to create an account, subscribe, and buy credits. You are responsible for maintaining access to your sign-in account and for activity performed through your AskCSV account.

Stripe processes payment methods, Checkout, the subscription, and the Customer Portal. The subscription renews automatically each month at the price shown at Checkout until canceled; extra credits are one-time payments for the amount shown. Stripe emails receipts to the billing email on your Stripe customer, which for a subscription may differ from your AskCSV account email. If a payment fails, is disputed, or cannot be verified, the related subscription or credits may be suspended, withheld, or removed. Contact help@askcsv.com for billing support.

Deleting your account deletes your account and any remaining credits, and clears its files and chats from the browser you delete it in. Other browsers keep their own copies until you clear that site data there. If you want a refund of eligible purchased credits, request it before deleting your account.

4. Your Data and Privacy

You are responsible for the data you choose to open and analyze, and for ensuring you have the right to use it. Files and chats are stored in your browser, not on AskCSV servers, as described in our Privacy Policy, and a limited context is shared with our AI provider to produce answers.

You can delete any file or chat at any time, or clear this site's data in your browser. Guest accounts and their trial credits expire 7 days after they are created. You are responsible for keeping any source files or exports you need; AskCSV is not a backup service.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Services lawfully and not to:

• attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the Services or their underlying systems;
• bypass usage, credit, security, rate, or access controls;
• reverse engineer, scrape, or misuse the Services in a way that harms us or other users;
• use the Services to process data you are not permitted to process, or in violation of any applicable law or third-party rights; or
• use automated or abusive activity that materially interferes with availability for others.

6. Intellectual Property

The Services, including their design, code, and content (excluding your data and third-party components), are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by applicable laws. Third-party and open-source components are subject to their own licenses. Your data remains yours — we claim no ownership over the files you open or the results derived from them.

7. Third-Party Services

The Services do not display advertising. They use third-party providers, including OpenAI for AI processing, Google for sign-in, Stripe for payments, PostHog for cookieless aggregate analytics, Vercel for web hosting, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure HeatWave for database services. These third parties operate under their own terms and privacy policies, which we do not control. See our Privacy Policy for details and choices.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. AI-GENERATED ANALYSIS MAY BE INACCURATE OR INCOMPLETE; YOU SHOULD INDEPENDENTLY VERIFY ANY RESULTS BEFORE RELYING ON THEM. GENERATED SQL IS PROVIDED SO YOU CAN CHECK CALCULATIONS, BUT REVIEWING IT DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE ANALYSIS ANSWERS YOUR INTENDED QUESTION. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM WILL NOT EXCEED USD $2.00.

10. Changes to the Services and Terms

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Services, prices, or limits from time to time. We may also update these Terms; the "Last updated" date above reflects the latest version. Where required, we will provide notice before changes take effect. Your continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by applicable law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute will be resolved by a court of competent jurisdiction.
