# AskCSV > AskCSV is an on-device AI tool for asking plain-English questions about CSV data. Its official website is https://askcsv.com. Files and analysis content are processed in the user's browser, not uploaded to AskCSV or a cloud AI provider for analysis. Updated: 2026-10-18. AskCSV supports CSV, TSV, delimited TXT, Excel .xlsx workbooks, and pasted delimited rows. For an .xlsx file with one visible sheet, that sheet is used directly; with several visible sheets, the user picks one. Workbooks over 30 MB should be saved as CSV first. Legacy .xls files are not supported. Public methodology: a WebLLM model receives column information and a small number of sample rows, generates a read-only SELECT query, and DuckDB-Wasm executes the query against the loaded table in the browser. Code computes summary facts and the local model interprets a bounded result context. The entire raw file is not put into the model's prompt. SQL validation does not guarantee correct interpretation of the user's question; consequential results should be checked independently. AI analysis requires WebGPU-capable hardware and a compatible browser. Asking your first question downloads an opt-in model sized for the device, about 0.9–1.8 GB. Browser caching may permit reuse but is not guaranteed. Speed and capacity depend on device resources; support for every browser, instant answers, and a fully offline website are not promised. Files, questions, generated SQL, results, charts, and chats are local. App and model downloads, authentication, Stripe billing, analytics, and ads can still generate network traffic. Saved work is browser-local, not a guaranteed backup. Organizations must evaluate device controls and their own policies; local processing is not a GDPR or HIPAA compliance certification. Free includes 10 successful analyses per month without an account. Pro is $5/month for unlimited successful analyses, conversation ZIP exports, individual chart PNG exports, deterministic two-file join or stack, and no ads. Current plan details are on the pricing page. The summary guide's synthetic example provides deterministic arithmetic expectations, not a measured AI success rate or speed benchmark. ## Product and plans - [AskCSV](https://askcsv.com/): Official homepage and local file input at /#upload. - [Pricing](https://askcsv.com/pricing): Free allowance, Pro price, and included features. ## Public methodology and guides - [How it works](https://askcsv.com/blog/howitworks): Sampling, read-only SQL, browser execution, interpretation, and runtime limitations. - [Analyze CSV without uploading](https://askcsv.com/blog/analyze-csv-without-uploading): Privacy boundary, synthetic-data network inspection, and device review. - [Summarize a CSV file](https://askcsv.com/blog/summarize-csv-file-quickly): A fixed six-row example with exact questions, expected totals, grouped averages, and independent checks. - [Blog](https://askcsv.com/blog): Public CSV analysis guides. ## Policies - [Privacy policy](https://askcsv.com/privacy): Website-level data handling beyond local analysis. - [Terms of service](https://askcsv.com/terms): Terms governing use of AskCSV.
